Email a questionHow does the ethnicity calculator work?
Each biological parent passes on about half of a child's ancestry. The calculator takes half of each parent's percentages and adds them together. In grandparents mode, each grandparent contributes about a quarter.
Is this the same as a DNA test?
No. The calculator shows the expected average based on what you know about your family. Real inheritance is random, so siblings can differ, and a DNA test measures your own genes.
Can I calculate my baby's ethnicity?
Yes. Enter your own ethnic makeup and your partner's as the mother and father. The result is your baby's expected mix.
What if I don't know a parent's full background?
Add what you know and enter the rest as "Unknown" so each person still totals 100%.
Can I use it for race or nationality?
Yes. The maths is the same, so you can enter ethnic groups, tribes, races, or nationalities.
Is my information saved or shared?
Your entries stay on your device. They are saved in your browser so you can come back later, and they are never sent to our servers.
